The ITA is seeking expressions of interest from the touch community for coaches and potential coaches.  There are a number of initiatives in progress and the ITA will initially create a coach’s group.  This group will be a forum by which the ITA will deliver coaching to players, clubs, provinces, Ireland, and the IRFU development officers.

You may be an official, coach, referee, player or supporter.  We have a role for you in the coach’s group.

Why get involved?

• I am a player and want to understand what makes a good coach.
• I would like to coach at the club level
• I am a club coach and would like to coach at a higher level
• I would like to deliver coaching courses
• I would like to still play but would like to coach other teams
• I would like to help roll out the ITA coaching of IRFU development officers in my club or province.
• I would like to head up the coaching in my province, working with the other provinces’ head coaches.
• I would like to help out with the coaching of the ITL teams, either as a head coach, coach or manager.

The intention is to develop our existing coaches and provide a pathway for potential coaches through coach education, forums, mentoring, and other activities.  In the short term, there is an opportunity to gain coaching knowledge by coaching or assisting the ITL men’s and women’s teams.  The ITA will appoint coaches for the 2024 Touch World Cup cycle from the group.  The appointees will be in place for the 2023 European Championships.

The next step will be to hold an online meeting to outline the next steps and how the coach’s group will work.
